We just returned from a 4 night stay at the Hotel Punta Colorada – our first visit.  I wanted you to know what a fantastic time we had.    My 12 year old son and I (from Southern California) met my brother and his 18 year old son (from New York) for a fishing get away.  We had a blast!  The first few days we fished for tuna and dorado and we were rewarded with dozens of fish and full coolers.  We averaged over a dozen fish a day.

I know it is exciting when you have a double header fighting two fish at the same time.  Well, one day at Gordo Banks, we spent over 90 minutes battling continuous quadruple-headers on school size yellowfin – four poles doubled over and the constant weaving of passing anglers made for my most memorable fishing moment ever.  The only problem is that my son will now expect that every time we go tuna fishing.

On our last day, our afternoon flight didn’t require us to leave the hotel until noon, so my we arranged for a few hours of near-shore fishing on the panga MINI HOOKER with Captain Carlos.  Again, my 12 year old was thrilled.  The action was non-stop we caught numerous species including a few sierra and roosterfish – all in just a 3 hour time span.  The last two fish we caught on our vacation was a double header of rooster fish, 20 yards from the beach.  Wow!!

I wanted to specifically recognize the Fishing Manager, Alex, who took care of all of our special requests including arranging for a beamier boat when the four of us fished together and setting up our 3 hour mini excursion on our last day.  Jesus and Luis, the crew of the MAGIC MARLIN were awesome and worked like crazy keeping that 90 minute tuna blitz going.  We will definitely be making this trip an annual ritual.

The vacuum packing / flash freezing service was also a great benefit.  I just defrosted a package yesterday and made some Hawaiian style poke and it tasted as good as the sashimi we had the day we pulled it from the Sea of Cortez.  You really have perfected the fishing vacation experience.

Attached is a photo of my son, Ben with two of the dozens of tuna we caught during our trip.

Thanks again for a great time!

"Good morning Eddie.
The tall kid on the right is my son, Paul Burroughs and the other one is Kanan Luce. We took them down to Palmas last week for fall break. Fished on Rude Boy & Mi Pistola. You now have two new fisherman to deal with. They are in 8th grade and it was their first time ocean fishing.

We had a BLAST !!!!! We did real well last week with lots of Dorado and 6 sailfish in 3 days.
Already can't wait to go down again !!!
As always, thanks Eddie !"

"Here is the photo of the rooster I caught in June of 2006. It was our first trip to the Punta Colorada and we had no idea just how big this fish really was in comparison to the ones around the resort on the wall. Now we know what we had. This fish was caught just past the lighthouse in about 40 feet of water, fought it for 35 minutes, up and down about 10 times In the picture, the tail is touching the deck of the cruiser Amante. Speaking of the Amante, Martin and Manuel are awesome. Tell them what you want to fish for and they take you right to the fish every time. Both of my friends and I have caught good size marlin both times we were there. No better place to fish in my opinion."

Thanks for the memories,

"A group of 6 of us just returned from a 4 night stay at the Palmas de Cortez. (One first timer!!) We fished on the Whiskey and the Cutty Sark. I believe this is our 6th time staying at a Van Wormer Resort in the East cape. ( some details get cloudy after a few days with Hector pouring cocktails) But one thing is for sure, we were treated to a nice time and AWESOME fishing. Captains and deckhands are all very good, and will try their best to get you on the fish.( I am sure tipping the Captain at the beginning of the day is helpful) Rooms are all very clean and upgraded from the last time we were there in 2001. Our last visit in 2004, was at the Playa Del Sol, which is smaller with less people. If you don't care to socialize much or want a quieter atmosphere, I would suggest staying there. Back to Palmas. Usually, just the fact you are staying in Mexico, you can find a problem with something. Not this time. Seems any prior minor complaints from the past are smoothed out. The best part I liked this year, is the vacuum packing of the fish at the hotel!! Not necessary to send to the smokehouse for that convenience. Also, everyone seems to be speaking better English so you can get exactly what you need. If the folks at Van Wormer resorts want to use my name or my email address, I would be glad to help answer any questions for fellow travelers/fishermen. "

"We wanted to thank you and the staff at Punta Colorada for making our stay with you enjoyable. Too often you hear complaints, but we wanted to notify you of how much we enjoyed the vacation. The staff was well prepared and extremely friendly and helpful in all matters. It was our third stay at Punta Colorada, but we have stayed at the East Cape for many years. This stay was most enjoyable.
I would like to give Alejandro special recognition. He has a difficult job coordinating the boats and eager fisherman, and he accomplished this task without complaints from any of the guests. He certainly assisted us in a professional manner. I know he is a long-term employee, but is is always nice to get a "high five" for a job well done.

"Dear Van Wormer Family,

We just returned from the best vacation of our life at Punta Colorada. What's amazing is I am not a die hard fisherman (my husband is) but I will never forget the beauty of the sea, the dolphins, the turtles, the fishing. We loved Punta and plan to return yearly. Loved how quiet it was, the food, the service, and not hearing wave runners, automobiles, t. v.'s etc. etc. Can't wait to come back. Please send me a few brochures of all 3 of your resorts. All our friends want to learn about what you have to offer too.
Also, we want to plan a vacation next year but don't want to come during a fishing tournament. Can you tell us when the tournaments are scheduled for next year? Thanks again. Will see you within 12 months that's guaranteed!
Barb and Roy West"

Just got back from our trip. This was our first time at Punta Colorada and we loved it. The staff was great and the setting perfect. The crew on the Dorado was first rate one of the best we've had in our 8 years of annual fishing trips. Thanks for a great time.

My son & I were at the Hotel Playa del Sol, 04/03/04 - 04/07/04, and I want to thank you folks for a great time. Please thank your staff, including Thomas, Boat Dispatcher, Hector, Waiter, Martin, Bartender, Capt. Martin & crewman Elen of the Miss Petunia II and the rest of your staff. I hadn't been Deep Sea Fishing since in the 1960s and our fishing vacation couldn't have been better. Thank you for a great time.

What a wonderful time we had at Palmas de Cortez the week of Mar 16 - Mar 20. The fishing was great! We caught 8 yellow fin tuna (25 - 35 lbs.) and one 120 lb. striped marlin 50 miles off shore. We caught 8 pargo snapper near Cabo Pulmo. The fishing, hotel staff, boat crew and food was the best!

Eddie,

Just a quick line to let you know we all had a wonderful time and appreciate all to did to help us achieve it. I'll definitely be bringing more groups down and have only good things to say about Punta. I was impressed with the boat captains and how they all put in the extra effort to get us into fish. One of our group was 88 years old and had been there 25 years ago. The captain teased a 150 stripped marlin to the back of the boat and with alot of help, he hooked and landed it, and on a fly rod! The kitchen help were all great to us and Mike went out of his way to make us comfortable in every way he could. Everyone there treated us great and we all can't wait to come back.

Thanks again,
Mike Ireland

Eddie,

I am enclosing two photos from a recent trip to the East Cape. I and my friends Tom Hutches and Gary Hall fished out of Hotel Playa Del Sol on the cruiser Maria Dos during the week of July 19th . We caught 6 sailfish, 1 Marlin (all released) 20 Dorado of the size in the photo, 6 football size tuna and the Largest tuna of my life, a 150 lb yellow fin which took over 2 hours to bring to the gaff. This tuna now resides in our freezers. My friends and I have been fishing out of Playa for the past 10 years and we are already planning our trip for next year. Great people, great hotel and most of all great fishing. Eddie, thanks for all your assistance in getting reservations over the years.

To all good ole fashion fishing folks in search of Shang-ri-la, just start looking south of the border down Mexico way. For the past 6 years I have ram rodded a group of individuals down to the Punta Colorada Resort on the Sea of Cortez on the eastern side of the Baja Peninsula. And for 6 years we have enjoyed some of the greatest memories in our lives. We have relaxed on beautiful white sand beaches while sipping on Coronas and Cuba Libres. Told and listened to countless lies about our fishing abilities into the wee hours of the morning at the bar. Consumed mass quantities of delicious Mexican cuisine (watch the peppers). And on top of all that we have actually caught several "Once in a Lifetime" type fish. All of the while being taken care of and attended to by some of the most gracious and accommodating human beings on this planet. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone affiliated with Punta Colorada. From Manny, Loreto and Lupe, who keep the beer cold and the ceviche fresh, to Eddie, who helps me get my group of 20 or more fishing fools down to this"Fisherman's Paradise" and back. A special shout goes out to Alexandro. This guy is "The Man". I can't say enough about this place or the people. Therefore I will end this by saying if you don't take the time to make it down to Punta Colorada for a fishing adventure, you 're dumber than dirt! I cant wait for this years trip!!

Eddie,

I recently returned from a trip to Plays Del Sol with eight of my friends. This is an annual trip I make but this year our core group of four added 5 who had never experienced The East Cape. To say this years trip was outstanding would be a very large understatement. The hospitality and warmth of the Playa staff is unmatched. With Thomas and Brenda insuring that all goes well, a seamless vacation is assured. This year our group fished on three cruisers (3 to a boat) for five fishing days and our results were nothing short of fantastic. EVERY member of our group hooked and released a Marlin. In addition we caught Sailfish and Tuna too numerous to keep count. We all had personal bests to take home with us. Among our catch was Adam (my oldest son, on his first trip) with a both a Sailfish ( caught 15 minutes into our first day) and a Marlin. Paul, Jason and Gary K. (all first timers) with many Tuna and each with a pair of Marlin. Gary K. had our groups biggest tuna a 75 lb beauty. Tyson, Gary H. And Tom F. with the one that got away, a Blue Marlin which was fought for 4 hours before the line broke with the fish within 30 feet. This Monster was estimated by Ramon (the boat Captain at between 600 and 700 pounds.) Gary H amongst his tuna and other fish caught was a beautiful 50# Roosterfish (a personal best) Tom Hutches (my longtime fishing partner) with his usual successful trip, catching by far the most tuna, a nice Marlin and his speciality: Roosterfish. What did I catch? Lots of tuna, a Marlin and a personal best Bull Dorado of 65 lbs. I could go on and on about the wide variety and quantity of fish we caught and about the good times we had at the Hotel (after fishing) but I believe the following statement pretty much sums it up. We already have our reservations at Playa for next year. I am attaching photos of Adam's Sailfish and my Dorado. Here's hoping to see you at Playa Del Sol.

Hello my friends at Van Wormer Resorts, just a thank you for your great service, and another successful trip. We had a great time, and caught some good tuna, and dorado. We also caught and released 2 stripped marlin, and 5 sailfish. We came home with about 250 lbs. of fillets, which filled the coolers. Now we can start planning for next year.

Bob Sladek

My Husband and I spent a week at your resort and WOW, what a great time we had. We went on April 22, 2007 and we left catching 4 marlin and a Dorado. We just missed the Tuna that just started picking up right when we left. It was our Honeymoon and it was one of the best times we have had together so far. The resort is so relaxing and clean and the people were all so friendly. We will be coming back next year to fish on the Chureay with Mannual and Lupe who did an excellent job helping us land the big one. Thanks again for a great experience.

I want to thank you Van Wormer Resorts folks for another great time. Four of us visited the Hotel Playa del Sol, 04/01/07 - 04/06/07. We had great fishing. In four days we caught 6 Marlin, 3 Sail Fish & 16 Dorado. At the Playa, please thank Thomas, waiter's Hector and Jesus and bartender's Martin and Leo. At the Palmas thank the boat dispatcher's, Effrain and German, and, most importantly, Capt. Christopher and 1st Mate Diego of the 'Tail Chase'. This was our third trip to the Playa and hope to make many more.

Rich Nelson, Broomfield, Colorado

I just got back from 9 days at Punta Colorada in Baja's East Cape. What a piece of paradise. The ocean front rooms were the best I've had in the East Cape. The 5 days of fishing, with 4 Marlin and 8 Dorados was spectacular. The employees and the guest at the Hotel were wonderful, just like being at a family's home. We had such a great time we are already planning next years trip. Thank you so much for fantastic time , the memories will last a life time.

Gilberto Gil

The first time at anything can be memorable, but for three Torrance boys, their first trip to Hotel Palmas de Cortez in Baja's East Cape is one they will remember an cherish for a lifetime.
